What exactly defines Punk hair?
Punks style their hair to stand in spikes, cut it into dramatic shapes, like Mohawks and color it with vibrant and unnatural hues such as pink, orange, red, blue, green. Sometimes dyed jet black or bleached white blonde, hair was made to look messy and often bleached and cropped. Punk hair cannot touch the shirt collar, encroach upon the ears or hang in the eyes. Hair dye was a UK innovation on the hair-style. Hair was cropped and deliberately made to look messy, in reaction to the typical long smooth hair of the 60s and early 70s. An example of an extreme punk hairstyle was worn by Colin Jerwood of “Conflict”.
