It was the fashion decade of big shoulders and power dressing. Influenced by TV shows like Dynasty and the Bob Mackie dresses and suits of lavish and glittering style. It was a time when suits became acceptable as evening wear with the simple application of sequins and the use of rich jeweled brocades.
Gold, glitter, glitz and glam were the themes for accessories. Hats came back! Hats of all styles made a comeback. Social occasions demanded the finishing touch of a hat. The Quilted Chanel bag was THE purse, seconded by the clutch for the evening. For the day time, Prada sold many thousands of the Nylon bag. The alternative was the “Bum Bag” (Hobo Bag). None of these would be complete without a Filofax.
Big hair styles of the 1980s grew bigger to match the look. Hair products like Mousse and gel were the key ingredients to achieving that style. The TV series 'Dallas' also created “big” hairstyles that grew to the size of Texas! |
